Police in Osun, on Wednesday, said they have in their custody, three suspects linked to the killing of a senior officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and her daughter .

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Ibrahim Gotan, disclosed this at the command’s headquarters in Osogbo, while briefing newsmen on the feat achieved by the operatives of the command.

Gotan said that on Nov.10, the alleged mastermind of the crime was reported missing at Ikoyi Police Divisional Headquarters, after he was said to have left his house at Power-line Area, Osogbo, for prayer activities at Ikoyi Prayer Mountain.

He said the Police Anti-kidnapping Squad carried out discreet investigation and found the suspect’s car, a Toyota Corolla Vaso, parked on Ibadan/Ife Expressway without knowing the location of the supposed missing man.

He said in the effort towards looking for him, the police on Nov.16, arrested one herbalist, called “Aberefa”, who confessed that the missing person the police were looking for, was one of his customers.

He said the herbalist explained that the suspect brought a woman and her daughter to him for money ritual on Nov. 3, and that the woman (a senior FRSC officer) and her daughter had been killed.

Gotan said the herbalist, however, named three other suspects as the persons that actually killed the woman and her daughter.

“Furthermore, on Nov. 17, the herbalist led detectives to Esa-Odo Dam, where the remains of the FRSC woman was dumped.

“Some vital parts, such as the head, breast, two hands, private parts and others were missing from the recovered body and deposited at the UniOsun Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy,” he said.

He said on Nov. 20, one of the named suspects by the herbalist, was also arrested in Ekiti.

He said that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to be the one who slaughtered both mother and daughter on the instruction of his boss, the herbalist.

He also confessed that the two other suspects mentioned by the herbalist were the ones who butchered the body of the victims.

“The suspect also led detectives to recover the body of the daughter from the bush where she was killed.

“Like her mother, some vital parts of the body, such as the head, two hands and the feet, were missing and her remains too had been deposited at the UniOsun Teaching Hospital morgue,” the police chief said.

He said the mastermind, who was initially thought to be missing, was later discovered to have absconded to Ghana.

He said that through effective collaboration with Interpol, the suspect was caught and repatriated to Nigeria.

Gotan said the man was currently in custody and have confessed to the crime.

He said that efforts were in top gear to apprehend other fleeing suspects and that all the detained suspects would be charged to court upon the completion of the ongoing investigation. (NAN)
