Gov. Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, has expressed his administration’s readiness to partner with Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria in the areas of education, agriculture, and capacity building for civil servants.
Malam Auwalu Umar, Director Public Affairs Directorate of the university disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Zaria.
Umar said the governor made the commitment while receiving the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, and other management staff during a courtesy visit at the Government House, Gusau.
Lawal, an alumnus of ABU, described the institution as one of the best in the world for its academic standards.
The governor noted that supporting one’s alma mater was both a duty and a service to humanity.
According to him, Zamfara will continue to rely on ABU due to the quality of its teaching and non-teaching staff.
He added that the state had benefited from the deployment of experts from the university to serve in his government.
On agriculture, he said, the state would collaborate with ABU to promote mechanised farming, while plans were underway to strengthen intellectual and capacity-building programmes for civil servants and top government officials.
“This informed the engagement of consultants in the appointment of Permanent Secretaries in the state,” he said.
Lawal thanked the vice-chancellor and his entourage for the visit and expressed optimism for deeper collaboration in the future.
Earlier, the vice chancellor expressed the willingness of the university to partner with Zamfara in different areas towards taking the state to greater heights. (NAN)
