Edo Central senatorial district came to a standstill on Thursday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) held its grand finale campaign rally ahead of the August 16 senatorial by-election.

The event, which took place in Ekpoma, Esan Central Local Government Area, drew an unprecedented crowd of party faithful, supporters, and community members from across the district.

The rally was a show of political strength, with all major APC stakeholders in attendance, including the former governor of Edo State and current Senator representing Edo North, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole; the Secretary to the State Government (SSG); the Chief of Staff, Mallam Ganiyu Audu; the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku and members of the house; and the Edo Central senatorial leader, Gen. Cecil Isekhaigbe (Rtd), among other dignitaries.

Reassuring the Esan people of more development, Governor Okpebholo noted that Governor Obaseki was never interested in developing the state.

He said: “You see, because of what we are doing in Edo State, the people are asking, where were these funds? Let me tell you, Obaseki and the PDP were never interested in developing our state. They were not interested in our people. They were purely transactional people.”

Speakers at the event urged the people of Edo Central to turn out en masse on Saturday to vote for the APC candidate, promising that victory for the party would guarantee effective representation and accelerated development for the district.

They emphasized unity, peace, and vigilance during the electoral process, assuring voters that the APC remains committed to delivering on its promises.

The rally featured energetic music, cultural displays, and thunderous chants of party slogans, reflecting the high spirits and determination of the crowd.

Residents described the turnout as one of the largest political gatherings in recent memory, signaling strong momentum for the APC heading into Saturday’s polls.

With just two days to the election, Thursday’s grand rally in Ekpoma reinforced the party’s confidence and its resolve to secure victory in the Edo Central senatorial by-election.

The speakers at the event, including Senator Adams Aliyu Oshiomole, re-affirmed the progress made so far within the 9 months into Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration and praised Esan people for the overwhelming support.
