The Nigeria Democratic Congress has distanced itself from purported lists of candidates circulating on social media for Imo, Abia, Anambra and other affected states, describing them as fake and unauthorised.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, the party urged members and the general public to disregard the lists, insisting that they did not emanate from the party’s national headquarters.

The NDC stated that it had already submitted the authentic list of candidates who would fly the party’s flag in the forthcoming elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission through the appropriate channels as stipulated by the Electoral Act.

The party alleged that the lists being circulated were the handiwork of mischief makers bent on creating confusion and undermining its internal processes.

According to the statement, investigations have commenced to uncover the sources of the purported lists and the circumstances surrounding their circulation.

“The said lists are fake and did not emanate from the party headquarters,” the statement read.

“It is being peddled by mischief makers and those who do not wish the party well. The party is investigating the sources of such fabrications and leakages as they are desperate attempts to cause ill will and distractions within the party.”

The party reassured its members of its commitment to strengthening its structures and maintaining internal cohesion despite what it described as attempts to distract it from its objectives.

The NDC further stated that it remained committed to building a political platform capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges and urged members to remain focused and united.
