Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun has resigned his membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Adeleke made this known in a letter dated Nov. 4, addressed to the chairman of the party in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area of the state.
In the letter made available to newsmen in the early hours of Tuesday in Osogbo, Adeleke cited persistent leadership turmoil at the party’s national level as the reason for his resignation.
The letter reads: “Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the party with immediate effect.
” I thank the PDP for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Representative, Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.”
Although the governor did not mention the party he would be defecting to in the letter, it was learnt that Adeleke might be defecting to the Accord Party in the coming days.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Aug. 8, 2026, for the governorship election in the state.(NAN)
