The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, says it has arrested a 19-year-old suspected serial motorcycle thief during the ongoing Ember border security patrol.

Superintendent Jimoh Adeniken, the Corps Public Relations Officer (PRO), disclosed this during a news conference on Thursday in Akure.

Adeniken said Ayomide, who hailed from Ola in Kwara, was apprehended in Ajue, Ondo State.

He explained that the suspect was apprehended during the patrol, tagged ‘Operation Le Won Jade’, which started on Nov.6.

The PRO said the suspect allegedly attacked a commercial motorcyclist (Okada rider) with a sledgehammer in Omu-Aran community, Kwara, and escaped with the stolen motorcycle.

“Further investigation revealed that the suspect remained in Ore, Ondo State, for some time before attempting to return to the area, believing the Okada rider may have died from the attack.

“However, security personnel in Ajue community, who had been on alert, eventually apprehended him.

“The suspect (Ayomide) admitted to committing the crime with the intention of using the motorcycle for commercial purposes in Ore.

“He told the commercial motorcyclist to take him from Omu-Aran in Kwara, to a farm settlement.

“When they got there, he pretended to make a phone call to distract him, then hit motorcyclist on the head with a sledgehammer, who abandoned the motorcycle and ran,” the PRO said.

Adeniken said Ayomide had been handed over to the Kwara State Local Government Security Initiative for continued investigation and possible prosecution. (NAN)
