No fewer than 13,117 constituents of Ado State Constituency of Benue have benefited from a medical outreach organised by the Deputy Speaker of the Benue House of House, Mrs Lami Ogenyi.
Mr Agbaji Atsonwu, the press secretary to the deputy speaker, made the disclosure in a statement released Tuesday and made available to newsmen in Makurdi.
Atsonwu said that the 7-day comprehensive medical outreach sponsored by the Lami Health Foundation offered various medical and surgical services to the beneficiaries.
The press secretary listed the illnesses treated to include malaria, typhoid, ulcers, high blood pressure, high blood glucose level (diabetes), cold and cough, amongst others.
He explained that during the exercise, supplements, vitamins, oral rehydration salt (ORS) and delivery packs were distributed.
“Surgical procedures were hernia repairs, including complex cases such as umbilical and strangulated inguinal hernias, hydrocelectomies, appendectomies, lipoma excisions, lump removals, abnormal growth removals, and joined finger separations.
“The biostatistics from the outreach show that a total of 13,117 beneficiaries received medical attention across the designated centres.
“At Ukwonyo-Utonkon, a total of 2,217 general outpatient cases were recorded, alongside 2,457 eye cases.
“Additionally, 35 surgical procedures were successfully carried out, bringing the total number of beneficiaries in Ukwonyo to 4,709.
“In Igumale, physicians attended to 1,919 general cases and 1,968 eye patients, while 58 surgical operations were conducted. The total number of beneficiaries at the Primary Healthcare Centre, Igumale, stood at 3,945.
“At Ijigban, which served as the venue for the Ari outreach, 2,008 general cases were recorded, alongside 2,087 eye cases. Furthermore, 8 and 11 surgical procedures were performed on the first and second days, respectively, bringing the total number of beneficiaries from the Ari outreach to 4,114,” he added.
According to him, deferred surgical cases from previous centres were also addressed.
He said that 11 cases referred from Ukwonyo-Utonkon were successfully operated on in Igumale, while 10 cases from Igumale were handled in Ijigban—bringing the total number of deferred surgeries to 29.
Atsonwu added that during the mop-up exercise held at Apa-Agila, a total of 321 people were examined for eye problems and treated accordingly. (NAN)
