Mr Monsuru Akinloye, Chairman of Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State, on Wednesday commenced the distribution of 80,000 exercise books to 19 public primary schools within the council.
The distribution exercise was inaugurated at RCM Primary School, Odomola in Eredo.
Akinloye said that the initiative was conceived to improve literacy among pupils while also easing the financial burden on parents.
He noted that the gesture represents a practical demonstration of the dividends of democracy at the grassroots.
The chairman listed the schools that benefited in the first phase of the programme to include RCM Primary School, Odomola, AUD Primary School, Odo-Egiri and UPE Primary School in Iraye.
Others are Government Demonstration Primary School, Noforija, LG Primary School, Noforija, and Pobo Primary School in Poka.
Akinloye said that the distribution would continue on Thursday in other schools across the council area to ensure that no pupil is left out.
According to him, education remains the most powerful tool for empowering children and preparing them for future leadership.
He assured that education remains a top priority, with plans already in motion to supply more learning materials and upgrade school facilities.
He urged stakeholders to continue to support the council’s drive towards raising a generation of well-educated and responsible leaders.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that teachers at the event commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful.
They noted that the free exercise books would go a long way in boosting learning and motivating the pupils to take their studies more seriously. (NAN)
