The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated relief materials to flood victims in Lamurde Local Government Area (LGA) of Adamawa.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items donated included bags of rice, maize, beans, vegetable oil, sugar, blankets, mats, mosquito nets, roofing sheets, and cement.
Mr Khalifa Lawan, NEDC Coordinator in the state sympathised with the victims, and assured them of the commission’s continued support.
According to him, the gesture is part of NEDC’s ongoing emergency response programme across the North East aimed at alleviating the suffering of disaster-hit communities.
Lawan emphasised the importance of collaboration among stakeholders, adding that such was critical in mitigating the negative effects of natural disasters.
Receiving the relief items on behalf of the victims, Mr Bulus Daniel, Lamurde Local Government Area Chairman, appreciated NEDC for the timely intervention.
He described the gesture as a huge relief to the displaced residents and assured of their judicious distribution to the targeted beneficiaries.
“On behalf of the people of Lamurde, I sincerely thank the NEDC for this kind gesture.
“These items will be distributed transparently to ensure they reach the most vulnerable victims.
“This support will go a long way in easing the suffering of our people,” he stated.
A cross section of community and religious leaders also lauded the NEDC for the intervention.
They pledged to cooperate fully with government agencies to ensure effective recovery and rehabilitation of the affected communities. (NAN)
