‎From July 14th to 18th, 2025, Edo State conducted a Supportive Supervision of Primary Healthcare Facilities under the Immunization Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) Project.
‎This initiative was carried out in collaboration with the State Government and the World Bank.

‎The goal of this exercise was to ensure that the Primary Healthcare facilities had the right equipment, job aids, color-coded bins and guidelines in place to provide quality healthcare. This was part of the ongoing effort to maintain standards in Primary Healthcare service delivery.

‎On Friday, the 18th of July, 2025, the National and State Supervisors visited the Executive Secretary, Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA), Dr. Coulson Oahimire Osoikhia at his office in Benin City for a debrief meeting to present their findings. The team included Dr. Iriah Akhere-Ogbesia, who represented the National team, Dr. Idemudia Osayomore and Dr. Efeomon Eseigbe, who represented the State Project Implementation Unit (PIU) for the IMPACT Project.

‎The team reported that they visited 27 facilities across 5 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Edo namely Akoko Edo, Ikpoba-Okha, Esan South East, Orhiomnwon, and Etsako West. The supportive supervision involved mentoring and coaching for healthcare workers. The team was made up of members from the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), the State IMPACT Project Implementation Unit and State Clinical Mentors.

‎One of the key findings was the availability of essential medicines and equipment at the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) / IMPACT facilities which they team noted was commendable. It was also noted that the health facilities had job guidelines in place, thanks to a training session held earlier in the year for frontline healthcare workers. However, it was observed that job aids had not yet been pasted at the facilities. The team recommended that this issue be addressed.

‎In response, Dr. Osoikhia expressed his gratitude to the team for their hard work.

‎ “Thank you for your efforts. We will ensure that the job aids are printed and pasted at the facilities as soon as possible.

‎ “It is the goal of His Excellency, Governor Monday Okphebholo, that Edo State sets the standard for Primary Healthcare. His support which is demonstrated through the collaboration with the World Bank, is essential to ensuring quality healthcare for Edo people”.
