The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, today, Wednesday 16th July 2025, received in audience the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Edo State, Prof. Anugbum Onuoha, in his office at the State Command Headquarters, Benin City.
The visit forms part of ongoing inter-agency collaboration and strategic engagement aimed at ensuring a peaceful, credible, and secure Edo Central Senatorial District and the Ovia South West/Ovia South East Federal Constituency election in the state.
During the meeting, the Resident Electoral Commissioner briefed the CP on INEC’s preparedness for the upcoming elections, including logistics, voter education, and distribution of election materials. He also stressed the critical role of the Police and other security agencies in maintaining law and order throughout the electoral process.
In his response, the Commissioner of Police assured the REC of the Command’s unwavering commitment to providing adequate security before, during, and after the elections. He reaffirmed that the Command has put in place robust security arrangements, including patrols, surveillance, and deployment of personnel to identified flashpoints to forestall any form of electoral violence or disruption.
The Command will continue to work closely with INEC, sister security agencies, and stakeholders through the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) to guarantee a safe environment for all eligible voters to exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation.
