The Nasarawa State Police Command says CP Umar Ahmed-Chuso has assumed duty as the 30th Commissioner of Police in the state.
Ahmed-Chuso takes over from CP Shetima Mohammed, who has been redeployed to the Police Staff College, Jos, as Deputy Commandant by the Inspector-General of Police.
SP Rahman Nansel, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, said in a statement on Thursday in Lafia that the new Commissioner brings to his new assignment extensive operational experience, administrative capacity and a strong record of professional service.
Nansel quoted Ahmed-Chuso as appealing for sustained public cooperation to enhance ongoing efforts to tackle crime and strengthen security across the state.
He said Ahmed-Chuso, an indigene of Sokoto South Local Government Area of Sokoto State, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
He joined the Nigeria Police Force on June 10, 1994, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and trained at the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
According to the statement, the new Commissioner has served in several strategic roles, including Deputy Commandant of the Police Staff College, Jos, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Kano State, Deputy Commissioner of Police (CID), Kano State, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), Delta State.
He was also the pioneer Area Commander of Argungu in Kebbi State and previously served as Divisional Police Officer in Illela, Yauri, Argungu, Bagudo, Unguwar Rimi, Sokoto Central Division, Gwiwa and Augie.
The PPRO said Ahmed-Chuso had worked at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (Interpol), Abuja, and held roles such as Officer in Charge of Pay, Divisional Crime Officer, as well as Directing Staff at Police College, Kaduna.
He had attended various courses locally and internationally, including Citizenship and Leadership Training, Tactical Leadership and Combat, Protection of Human Rights at Texas Southern University (Houston, USA), Higher Military Strategy at the Army War College, Abuja, and Advanced Detective Course.
Ahmed-Chuso is a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Police Studies.
Nansel said the new commissioner called on traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, religious organisations and residents to work closely with the Police by providing useful and timely information to prevent crime and support quick response to security threats.
He assured the public of the Command’s renewed commitment to safeguarding lives and property and sustaining peace and security across the state. (NAN)
