As part of the Edo State Government’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and empowering vulnerable populations in the State, the Office of the First Lady has facilitated empowerment for individuals with special needs, including persons with disabilities, parents of multiple births (such as quadruplets and triplets), widows, persons with hearing and speech impairments, amongst others.
The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, during an engagement with beneficiaries at the Government House in Benin City, reaffirmed the commitments of the Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, to supporting vulnerable populations in the State. She stated that the administration’s support is inclusive; extending to anyone who requires it, regardless of backgrounds or circumstances.
According to Mrs. Anani, “We’ve noticed that many people have written to the Office, seeking assistance, and we try to help them. We have the widows, vulnerable individuals, and students; people in need. The Governor, in his magnanimity, has provided funds to support these people, as it’s our responsibility to assist those who reside in Edo State and require help. This aligns with the expectations of the people of Edo State, who deserve humanity, good governance, and the benefits of democracy. We’re here to support those in need, regardless of sex, colour, gender, tribe, or religion. If there’s a need and we’re able to help, we will.”
Mrs. Anani added, “We also plan to organize medical outreaches and cover hospital bills, particularly for children and mothers. we’re also focusing on supporting children living with cancer, and we’ll do as much as possible to help.”
Parents of a set of quadruplets and beneficiary, Mr. Augustine and Mrs. Esther Eguaseki, appreciated the State Governor and Mrs. Anani for the generous support, which included ten packs of diapers and a cash gift. According to them, the gesture has brought relief to the family, helping to alleviate some of the challenges associated with raising four newborns.
Other beneficiaries, including Mr. Isaac Agbongiaze, a physically challenged person, and Mrs. Faith Okojie, a young widow with three infants, who received a sewing machine and cash gift, also appreciated the State Governor, saying they have not experienced such kindness before.
