The Coordinator, Office of the Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, joined dignitaries including the State Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, the Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, the Head of Service, Dr. Anthony Okungbowa Esq. among others, in celebrating Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu’s historic appointment as the first female Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
The celebration was part of a church thanksgiving service, which took place at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Edo Province 16, in the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Benin City, where Mrs. Anani expressed delight in seeing an Edo woman in such an exalted position in the Medical Field.
Offering gratitude to God for the milestone, she prayed for God’s continued blessings and guidance for Prof. Ize-Iyamu as she embarks on her new journey.
Mrs. Anani appreciated the State Governor for fostering an inclusive environment which affords women to be placed in positions of excellence, stating that Prof. Ize-Iyamu’s appointment marked a significant milestone for Edo women, while representing a major step in promoting gender inclusivity.
According to her, “We express our gratitude to the Governor of Edo State for empowering women and placing them in positions where they belong. It’s a government of inclusion. When a woman is given a platform, greatness is expected. Being the first woman in this role, it’s one of the best things that has happened to Edo State and its women especially”.
In her remark, Prof. Ize-Iyamu expressed gratitude to God for His blessings, highlighting significant milestones, including her appointment as Dean of the School of Dentistry and her children’s notable achievements, crediting God’s mercy for her successes, while thanking Him for His grace upon her family.
“In August, I was announced as the CMD of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital”. She said.
The husband of the CMD and Pastor-in-Charge of RCCG Edo Province 16, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, appreciated the Governor for his role in his wife’s appointment, despite their different senatorial districts, emphasizing that Edo State is one. He stressed that the unity of the State transcends geo-political divides.
Ministering during the Church Service, Pastor Prof. Eyesan Dabor, delivered a message on “Moving from Glory to Glory,” where he emphasized the importance of spiritual growth, understanding of personal identity in Christ, and reflecting God’s glory. He stressed the need for a life driven by a vision to serve others, rather than personal ambition and asserted that true glory stems from God’s grace and truth.
